Our ward has been using eTrial for over a year now.  I can’t tell you how much your site helped me as a new Committee Chairman!  It’s b/c of the ease of eTrail that we have gone from not having an Eagle Scout in over 10 years to having 6 young men on track to complete their Eagle Rank within the next six months!  THANK YOU!

We have currently registered to use the duty to god portion of   We like it and are feeling more comfortable with it all the time.  I mentioned to the bishop and scout committee that we should start using the scouting portion as well.  Currently we use troop master software which does what we need it to, but when changes are made in the organization it is a pain to move the software from one computer to another.  Your approach makes this simple.

I just started using your Duty to God tracker and am very impressed. I am the YM secretary and was doing the same thing many others may be doing; that is making up my own spread sheet and trying to disseminate it the best I could to the young mens leaders. Your web based idea along with the user friendly format is great. Thank you!

You do great work!  This sure helps alot.  I’ve been working with the young mens program for over 26 years and nothing has helped more in keeping up with the data of the boys than what you have done.

  1. I was the eleven year old leader in our ward for 2 years, last Aug. I was released. I loved your site for the fact I would record all our activities as we accomplished them.
    Most of my boys made it to first class before moving on to the 12 year old scouts.

    The only problem I have with your records are you have not updated the new requirements that occured Last January 2008. So I had to constantly modify my boys records for each rank. I was sent an update like 1/29/08. Please update your rank requirements.

    1. Thanks for your comments. Our site is now updated with the new requirements. Moving forward, we will have those updates published as they occur.

  2. One proposal… Could you put a spot on the Scouting side that is for troop gear inventory? It is the only one I can’t put here (or don’t know where it is if it already is there) and so I am using google documents. If there was that link, I would have all of the information in one place.

    We love using your website. The automatic reports have been a boost to getting information out to parents. Reading through all the proposed enhancements makes me really excited to see the finished product.

    After being the SM for 4.5 years I’m now in the bishopric and can’t wait to see the YW, Cub, Faith in God, etc added.

    One of the key ways we track progress of our YM and YW is to compare Tenure to %of requirements completed. Your site makes this really easy. On a monthly basis we see how many are on track and where we can direct our focus.

  4. Fantastic and Can’t say enough good things!! We are on-track to Duty to God more than we ever have since finding your program. Thanks so much!

    After using this now for several mos., I have only one suggestion, can the individual detail reports be consolidated to a one page print out??? I know it might take a little more abbreviating and setting it up in a 2 columnar format, but it would be nice to have all on one sheet (more apt to get more attention) and save paper at the same time.

  5. Would it be possible for the “Rank Summary” page to show the date each rank was earned rather than just the word “Complete”? I love this program and it is such a help to inspire each scout to keep working toward his Eagle after seeing on paper eactly where he is along the road to Eagle. I think this would be a real plus to add the dates to show up on the Rank Summary page. Thank you!

  9. I really like the program so far but having problems with reports. If I have a scout who is working on first class requirements as a group activity, but he is still tenderfoot, I can’t get a report for what he has completed on 1st class, only 2nd class. Am I missing something? How do I get this to work?

    I really like this program and have been spending alot of time getting my scouts all loaded in and my leaders using this. Some suggestions I would like to see is:
    *A place for the parents to leave messages for the troop. Since they aren’t able to adjust the records but might notice something they need to change, they can leave me a message.
    *I would also like to be able to email all the adults the activities coming up page, or just be able to email them notices directly from here. Subcriptions are limited to certain dates and doesn’t allow me to send immediatley.

    1. We will be adding a feature that allows you to e-mail the parents easily from the web page. We have added your other suggestions to our list of future enhancements.


  12. We were wondering if you could create a report that would replicate troopmaster to allow us to upload the info into BSA internet advancement.. I saw these instructions from BSA website.

    1.Go in to TroopMaster
    2.Go to reports
    3.Under reports go to Advancement and Awards
    4.Go to Court of Honor/4403
    5.Select a start date that will cover all of your advancement records. This will be for the first time only. Enter the end date as today’s date. You will need to put in a date for awards needed.
    7.Click Ok
    8.Then you will be able to review the report. At the top of the report click on the disk icon to save the report.
    9.After you click the icon you will have four file format options that you can choose from.
    10.Make sure you pick the option that says SCOUTNET… (*.csv) 11.Select a place on your computer that you can save this report to where you will be able to locate it again. I like the desk top.
    12.Once you have saved the file it should be in this format ADVXXXXX. (XXXX will be replaced with your unit number) If it is not then it will not work. Make sure you have followed all the steps above.
    13.Now you can go to the Internet Advancement website and upload this file.
    After you have finished submitting your report for the first time you will be able to create upload files using the end and start date in TroopMaster. You will just change the dates on the report and follow the steps above.

  14. ETrail has been a great tool for our DTG and Troop tracking purposes. The email tool and reporting tools have made a huge difference in parent involvement with the young men. This tool has made it easier to communicate and easier for us all to feel accountable to one another.

    Will there soon be an ipod application for the DTG program? When will we be able to send individual progress reports to the boys and parents regading DTG progress. We used to have this feature but have lost it with the change in the new program. The old reports really helped us keep up with the boys progress in DTG on all levels.

  15. We’ve converted from TM and love the Etrail format — very nice program that you have. On the two Personal Reports options, is it possible to print out several scouts without having to print out the entire Patrol or the entire troop? Often I want to print out just four or five scouts and am trying to see if I can que up several scouts at once rather than doing each separately.

    1. Thanks for your feedback. We have added this to our list of enhancements. We think it would be a great feature to provide. We will let you know when this is ready.

  16. I have been using for 5 or 6 years. Now that they are closing their site in November 2011 I am looking for a good replacement. After using etrailtoeagle for two weeks I am impressed by auto notifications which can be generated and sent monthly, bi- weekly or weekly. This will be a great help. Entering the data has been easy and it tracks all the same information which does along with Duty to God. I highly recommend etrailtoeagle as a replacement tool.

  17. Great tool! We love it! One suggestion from our Scout Committee – we would like to see a monthly report (and report subscription) of changes made in the system for our Troop during the month and who made the change. Since we need to make certain that the data in matches what is on record at the scout office, the Scout Committee Chair or Advancement Committee Member needs to know if a parent or leader makes a change that we’re not otherwise aware of. If a parent or leader thinks that a merit badge is complete for a scout, and marks it as complete in etrailtoeagle, but we don’t get a blue card to submit to the scout office, we have a problem. This report would help us make sure we have this system and the scout office synchronized.

    I’d also like to see the Merit Badge by Rank page updated to include the Palms. It currently only shows MBs up to Eagle and leaves off any additional MBs earned toward Palms.

    Please sort the “trail to first class” report by “age” instead of “name”.

    In the 11-year-old program we are taught to focus on the advancement requirements of the oldest boy(s). If that report was sorted by age, then it would be easier to see patterns of need among the oldest boys instead of looking at the needs of each boy individually.

    Once again, please sort the “trail to first class” report by “age” instead of “name”.

  19. I would be a life saver if you could create a report that would allow you to print the Merit Badges earned for the Court of Honor on BSA form 33414?

  20. I love this site and so far my only complaint is not seeing a report that I can run that shows me which boys are ready for a Board of Review. Is there a report that I am missing and if not is there a way to make one that would show me which boys are ready for their boards?

  21. We really like the Quick Entry for ranks. It saves my 11 year old Scout leader time in entering items completed at a troop meeting.
    Would it be possible to add that type of feature to the merit badges . . . to be able to pick a date, pick a merit badge, select the line items completed towards that merit badge (3,4,7A..), and pick the boys that it applies to. That feature would really help my Scoutmaster with tracking merit badges especially if it was on the app.

    One other item another leader liked from the site we previously used was the ability to look at all the Scouts (like the Troop Roster page) and see the total number of camping nights, total number of service hours, leadership hours, number of required merit badges, number of other merit badges along with the current rank. Trying to get all that information through printing reports takes more time . . . having it in a view on the Troop Roster page would be wonderful!

    We sure hope you continue to fine tune this great program. Thanks!

    I love the program, love the reports and simplicity to use. Checking to see when the cooking merit badge will start to reflect in the required merit badge field. As of now the boys that have earned that badge it isn’t flagging to advancement.

  23. We have moved over from TroopMaster and are enjoying the new software. We would really like to see more tracking available for leaders; positions, training, nights, etc.

  24. This program is a lifesaver. Love that it is internet based and can be used in virtually any location.

    Suggestion: It would be very helpful to have a means of marking off individual requirements for merit badges within the partial merit badge list.

      We agree with you on the merit badge tracking. We are working on that and will bring it to the application as quickly as we can.
